Croatia [ˌkroʊˈeɪʃə] (Croatian: Hrvatska : /ˈxr.vat.ska/), officially the Republic of Croatia (Republika Hrvatska listen ), is a southern Central European country at the crossroads between the Pannonian Plain and the Mediterranean Sea. Its capital is Zagreb. Croatia borders with Slovenia and Hungary to the north, Serbia to the northeast, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the east, and Montenegro to the far southeast. Its southern and western flanks border the Adriatic Sea, and it also shares a sea border with Italy in the Gulf of Trieste. |

Macedonia ( /ˌmæsɨˈdoʊniə/ (help·info), Macedonian: Македонија), formally the Republic of Macedonia (Macedonian: Република Македонија, transliterated: Republika Makedonija [rɛˈpublika makɛˈdɔnija] ), is a country in the central Balkan peninsula in southeastern Europe. It is one of the successor states of the former Yugoslavia, from which it declared independence in 1991. It was admitted to the United Nations in 1993 under the provisional reference of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, abbreviated as FYROM.
