Mietta has released 10 albums in all and two million copies of her records were sold out. Her career started as a model and a radio soap opera star until 1988 when she participated in Sanremo Music Festival's new comers category with Sogno. She didn't succeed so well but was noted by Amedeo Minghi who wrote for her Canzoni for 1989. She won hands down the New comers category besides winning the critics award or Premio Mia Martini. She gets her first platinum record and wins Telegatto as the best new artist of 1989, voted by Italians. In 1990 Minghi was still acting as her mentor and they dueted in Vattene amore, an OGAE song contest winning song that has become an evergreen. It came only 3rd but stayed in charts forever. Her debut album, also titled "Canzoni" sells 6 times platinum and is released Europewide and she wins two Telegattos, for the song of the year and the female artist of the year. In 1991 she sings Minghi's Dubbi no in Sanremo and wins another Telegatto as the female artist of the year. Her second album "Volano le pagine" enclose a reinterpretation of Lover Man (Oh Where Can You Be?) and sells two times platinum. In 1992 she releases "Lasciamoci respirare" album and in 1994 "Cambia pelle", besides two duets with Riccardo Cocciante and another Sanremo with Figli di chi. In 1995 her exploration with music styles from funky, blues and hip hop takes another step further to trip hop and more soul with album "Daniela é felice". Her music video Oggi Dani e` piu` felice was the most aired foreign video in England. In 1996 she does Esmeralda for Disney, a video with Zucchero and debuts as an actress in popular "La Piovra" TV series. In 1998 she's back to music with "La mia anima" album, covers of black music mostly. The year after she is acting again before releasing her first greatest hits album "Tutto o niente" in 2000, with another participation in Sanremo with Fare l'amore, written by Mango.
