The 1998 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XVIII Olympic Winter Games, were a winter multi-sport event which was celebrated in 1998 in Nagano, Japan. Other candidate cities were Aosta, Italy; Jaca, Spain; Ă–stersund, Sweden; and Salt Lake City, United States. The host city selection was held in Birmingham, United Kingdom on June 15, 1991 at the 97th IOC Session. Information below comes from the International Olympic Committee Vote History web page. These Games marked the return of the Winter Olympics to Japan after 26 years. In February of 1972, the XI Olympic Winter Games were held in Sapporo. |
