The Original Night Stalker is the nickname for an unidentified serial killer and rapist who murdered six people in Southern California from 1979 through 1986. The crimes attributed to this serial killer are not related to the crimes of Richard Ramirez, who was also dubbed The Night Stalker in the mid-1980s. Six murders in Ventura, Dana Point and Irvine, California, have been linked by DNA evidence to the Original Night Stalker. According to the A&E Cold Case Files episode that profiles the killer, the Original Night Stalker is considered one of the worst serial offenders in California history. |

Jesse K. Timmendequas (born April 15, 1961) is a convicted murderer who on July 29, 1994 raped and murdered his neighbor, seven-year-old Megan Kanka, in Hamilton Township, New Jersey. The murder led the New Jersey Legislature to pass Megan's Law, which requires convicted sex offenders to notify the local police department when they move into a neighborhood.
