Buenos Aires is the capital and largest city of Argentina. Buenos Aires city is located outside of Buenos Aires Province as it is an autonomous city, hence the name "Autonomous City of Buenos Aires." It is geographically located on the southern shore of the Río de la Plata, on the southeastern coast of the South American continent, but is not the capital of the province of Buenos Aires, nor even part of it. Greater Buenos Aires is the third largest conurbation in Latin America, with a population of about 13 million.
