Mr. Mxyzptlk (pronounced : [mɪksˈjɛzpɪtˌlɪk], : mĭks-yĕzʹpĭt-lĭkʹ or : [mɪksˈjɛzˌpɪtɫɪk], : mĭks-yĕzʹpĭtʹl-ĭk), sometimes called Mxy, is a fictional supervillain who appears in DC Comics' Superman comic books. He was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, and first appeared in Superman (Vol. 1) #30 (September 1944). He is usually presented as a trickster, in the classical mythological sense. In most of his writings he can only be stopped by tricking him to saying his own name backwards which will return him to his source reality in the 5th dimension. However this specific limitation of the character has been eliminated since the Crisis on Infinite Earths reboot, upon which the character only leaves because he willingly agrees to do so after meeting some condition he sets, such as having Superman succeed in painting Mxy's face blue.
