Zlatan is a male given name of South-Slavic origin. It is typical for all the Zlatanics Slavic countries on the Balkans, namely Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Macedonia and Serbia. The name is particularly common in Bosnia because it is ethnically neutral (i.e. it is shared by Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats). The name is derived from the South-Slavic word zlato - from the Old-Slavic *zolto (gold). The ancient form of the name is Zoltan, which is still preserved in some non-Slavic countries like Hungary. |
